Praise is not just a worship song or a Sunday morning routine—praise is a lifestyle. As our daily prayer and devotional remind us, Scripture tells us to “pray without ceasing,” and in the same way, we can cultivate a posture of continual praise. God gives abundantly, consistently, and generously. Even in difficult seasons, even in uncertainty, He remains the One who provides every good and perfect gift. Joy is one of God’s greatest gifts to His people — but it is also one of His most misunderstood. In our evening prayer and devotional, we reflect on how often we confuse joy with happiness, believing joy is something we must wait for, feel, or stumble into. But Scripture paints a clearer picture: joy is chosen, not stumbled upon. Britt Mooney uses the image of a frightened child clinging to a rope, crying out in terror though she is only inches from the ground. Those around her gently try to convince her to simply step down. How often does God find us the same way — clinging fearfully to circumstances that cannot truly harm us, needing the gentle reminder that we can step onto the solid ground of His joy? Happiness shifts constantly because it is tied to temporary circumstances. But joy — the joy God gives — is rooted in eternal truth. It comes from the unchanging character of God and His finished work through Christ. It is not fragile, fleeting, or dependent on how our day unfolds. Psalm 118:24 calls us to “rejoice and be glad,” not because life is easy or perfect, but because God has already acted on our behalf. The command to “rejoice” means we must choose joy even when we don’t feel it — especially in hardship. This is why Nehemiah could tell a grieving, newly returned people, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Their joy did not erase the pain of their past, but it strengthened them for the future. The same is true for us. In seasons of loss, weariness, or uncertainty, joy is not denial — it is a declaration of trust. It is choosing to step down from fear and stand on the unshakable foundation of God’s promises. You don’t have to wait for joy. God has already given it. Today, and every day, we choose to step into it. Waiting is one of the most challenging spiritual disciplines. At thirteen and a half, I was diagnosed with a large brain tumor on the right side of my head after months of “migraines,” blurred vision, and loss of balance. The surgery was very risky, and when I woke up, I couldn’t walk, couldn’t feed myself, and my motor skills were like a baby’s. In this shorter version of my testimony, I share how: – I grew up in Switzerland as the son of an Olympic swimmer – Doctors first dismissed my symptoms as “just migraines” – An eye doctor finally discovered the truth – I woke up in a completely different body after surgery – One week in a rehab school in Hyères changed my heart – A simple prayer, “Lord, help me. Lord, don’t let go,” carried me through many years of depression – God surprised me with a master’s degree, my wife Elvi, and our three children I didn’t become the athlete I dreamed of, but I am still here by God’s grace. If you’re going through illness, depression, or loss, I pray this encourages you: your story is not over, and you are not alone.

Father, As the years go by, I often find myself worn down by circumstances that steal my joy and dim my delight in the Christmas season. When wonder feels distant, remind me of the miracle of the Incarnation — that the eternal God became flesh and lived among us. Renew my awe at the One who came to save, comfort, and redeem. When my spirit grows weary, restore my sense of wonder by helping me remember that You entered the darkness to bring light, and You continue to walk with me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Great God of all, You see all the brokenness in the world and know better than I do the evil that exists in the hearts of humankind. At times, I am overwhelmed by the stories of suffering I encounter. There is so much sorrow—people who go hungry, children without parents, families torn apart by war and violence, individuals struggling in poverty and slavery, and beloved daughters that You created who are exploited and assaulted. My heart breaks as I think of their lives and the hopelessness that marks their days. Lord, I know Your heart breaks for them too, and so I am asking You to be with them. Show them Your love and grace, providing comfort in their suffering. Please also guide me on how I can help, even in my small, limited role in the world. May I be a part of the work You are already doing to bring good news to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord, When the holidays feel heavy and joy seems far away, remind me that I don’t need to perform for others. You see my heart — weary, burdened, and longing for peace. Help me release the expectations I place on myself and the ones others place on me. Let me rest in Your promises and find comfort in Your presence. Stop Majoring in the Minors

Contentment does not come naturally. As today's devotional and prayer remind us, many of us grew up wanting things we didn’t have, or lost things we wished we could keep. Vivian Bricker shares how her mother taught her and her sisters early on that contentment is not about what you own, but about the posture of your heart. When you understand your limitations—and God’s limitless provision—you begin to release the constant pressure to have more, do more, or be more. The Apostle Paul understood this well. In Philippians 4, he explains that he learned to be content through both abundance and need. His contentment wasn’t tied to fluctuating circumstances but anchored in the unchanging strength of Christ. True contentment comes not from possessions, comfort, or stability, but from knowing Jesus deeply and trusting Him fully. In Christ, we are spiritually rich, even if we are materially lacking. When we train ourselves to find satisfaction in Him alone, we discover the peace the world cannot give—and cannot take away. A simple airport interaction became a powerful reminder of how the Lord works. The woman mentioned that while at the airport, she overheard someone going through a difficult situation and felt the Lord prodding her to reach out to the person. Watch the short but powerful clip to hear what unfolded and how that interaction was used to grow God's Kingdom.

Life is not perfect, if you haven't already figured that out yet. Indeed, there are numerous opportunities and reasons to celebrate. However, we all understand full well that with the good also comes the bad. There will also be those deep, dark valleys, instances that result in much hurt and pain.

However, God can use anything and everything. He can bring beauty out of ashes and infuse hope into what seems a hopeless, lifeless situation. He can also turn an innocent and simple interaction with a stranger into something unexpectedly beautiful. As one young woman explains, that is precisely what happened to her while at the airport.

In the clip posted on YouTube, she states how she was walking through the airport when she heard someone who was obviously going through something awful. This person was having a horrible day. But God prompted her to reach out to this individual, to talk to her and see how she could help.

"So, I walk past this girl, and she's bawling her eyes out," the woman said. "I overhear on the phone, and she's saying that she got scammed. So, I go over to her, and I like, sit next to her. And she gets off the phone, and I'm like, 'Hi.' I have my Venmo open, and I'm like, 'Hi, can I please? I just heard you over the phone. I'm so sorry this happened. Can I please send you some money?'"

The woman refused the offers of monetary assistance, but then something else happened. It was something that would change this woman's life forever.

In the middle of the airport, the two women started praying together.

"I feel this tension, where I'm like, 'Ask her if she wants to accept Jesus?'" the woman said. "Then I'm like, 'That's so weird. Like, let the girl, she's freaking crying. That's not what she needs right now.' And then I'm like, 'What else does she need right now than to give her life to Jesus in this moment?'"

So, during their prayer, the woman who had been scammed and was going through a painful, horrible situation accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. It all happened because one person reached out to her when she was going through a difficult time and asked if there was anything she could do for her.

James 5:16 "So then, make a statement of your sins to one another, and say prayers for one another so that you may be made well. The prayer of a good man is full of power in its working."

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the previews of Your promises throughout Scripture. As we enter this Advent season, align our hearts with divine anticipation. Forgive us for the times we’ve doubted Your faithfulness or trusted the world’s promises more than Your Word. Remind us how You fulfilled Your greatest promise through Jesus, the Messiah. Grow our faith as we wait patiently for Your kingdom of peace, justice, and joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, When I feel forgotten, unseen, or unheard, remind me of Your promise that when I call, You will answer. Thank You that Your silence is never indifference — it is often an invitation to draw closer to You. Help me to release bitterness, fear, and doubt, and to rest in the assurance that You are always near. When others overlook or misunderstand me, let me remember that You know me fully and love me completely. Thank You for being the God who sees, hears, and stays. You are faithful, even in the quiet.
