Contentment does not come naturally. As today's devotional and prayer remind us, many of us grew up wanting things we didn’t have, or lost things we wished we could keep. Vivian Bricker shares how her mother taught her and her sisters early on that contentment is not about what you own, but about the posture of your heart. When you understand your limitations—and God’s limitless provision—you begin to release the constant pressure to have more, do more, or be more. The Apostle Paul understood this well. In Philippians 4, he explains that he learned to be content through both abundance and need. His contentment wasn’t tied to fluctuating circumstances but anchored in the unchanging strength of Christ. True contentment comes not from possessions, comfort, or stability, but from knowing Jesus deeply and trusting Him fully. In Christ, we are spiritually rich, even if we are materially lacking. When we train ourselves to find satisfaction in Him alone, we discover the peace the world cannot give—and cannot take away. Today's Bible Verse: “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Help me remember this rather than falling into the cycle of wanting what I don't have. You are truly the best thing in this world, and You have given me all things. Thank You, Jesus, for always being with me through every circumstance and helping me to become more like You in word, speech, and thought. Help my heart to reflect You and to show You to the lost world. I will be content in all circumstances because I have You, which is the greatest blessing of them all. In Your Name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the previews of Your promises throughout Scripture. As we enter this Advent season, align our hearts with divine anticipation. Forgive us for the times we’ve doubted Your faithfulness or trusted the world’s promises more than Your Word. Remind us how You fulfilled Your greatest promise through Jesus, the Messiah. A pilot grabbed everyone’s attention with his moving words before takeoff. He delivered an unusual yet touching speech before the aircraft took off. Watch the short but powerful clip to listen to the pilot’s surprising but heartwarming words.

Traveling is something we are all familiar with, but few of us enjoy it. While a lot of those feelings depend on the chosen mode of transportation, getting from Point A to Point B is rarely, if ever, a fun time. Most of the time, people are simply hoping to get through their travel experience with as few disruptions, distractions and headaches as possible. We just want to reach our destination with our sanity still intact.

However, that is often a tall order, especially when it comes to flying. There are numerous hindrances and unnecessary holdups associated with air travel that most people would rather completely avoid flying altogether. But that is usually not the case, and despite everything horrible and irritating with flying, it’s often the most efficient mode of transportation.

Despite everything awful associated with flying, others may hate it for an entirely different, but very obvious reason. They, for whatever reason, have a fear of flying, which is understandable given how high and fast those planes are when in use. It’s honestly kind of frightening when you think about it, especially if you’re traveling internationally and will be over an ocean for long periods of time.

Well, in a clip posted on YouTube, a pilot came over the plane’s public address system and reassured his passengers that this was going to be a very safe flight. That was going to be the case for one very simple reason: his daughter. He mentioned that his little girl had just learned how to say ice cream, and he wanted nothing more than to get back to her and share a bowl with her.

What an unbelievably sweet moment! I’m sure anyone on that flight who might have been apprehensive about flying felt much better after the pilot’s words.

Ephesians 6:4 “And, you fathers, do not make your children angry: but give them training in the teaching and fear of the Lord.”

This unexpected interaction between a cook and a customer will melt your heart. Likely no one saw this exchange between the two men coming, but it was truly sweet and touching. Watch the short but heartwarming clip to see what brought about the surprising move between the two.

This world is a fallen, lost place and broken beyond repair. Likewise, it’s full of people who are lost, hurting and struggling, often scratching and crawling, hoping to make it through another day. Many are searching here and there for something, anything that will provide even a second’s worth of temporary relief.

Sadly, most of those who are hurting and struggling do so in silence, never letting on what they are going through. To make it even worse, hurt and need are all around us – in a coworker, a neighbor, a family member or a friend. We can never be sure what someone is going through or what they may be dealing with in their present situation.

Everybody is fighting an invisible battle, and with a little kindness, love and grace, we can make a world of difference to someone who is hurting and dealing with heartache. Offering someone something as simple as a hug can be huge, as a clip posted on social media seems to indicate.

In the short, 44-second video, one man quietly stands nearby as a second man works behind a stove and bags up his order. At different points through the clip, as the cook gathers the order, it appears they exchange a few words here and there.

At first glance, this seems to be a typical, everyday interaction, a customer picking up his order from a favorite restaurant. But then something truly unexpected happens.

Once the order is bagged up and ready for the customer, the cook opens up his arms to the customer, offering him a hug. The customer responds, welcoming the unexpected invitation of a hug. It quickly becomes clear that the customer badly needed a hug as he holds that embrace longer than expected.

We can never be sure what someone is dealing with or battling, but we can always be kind and show them love and grace.
