Going outside to gain glory

The Daily Pulse (Sunday, May 5, 2013): And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. Hebrews 13:12-13 (NIV)

1 Corinthians Chapter 13 in Stop Motion

A stop motion video I made for part of one of my favorite chapters of the Bible.

Karen Lynne - Little Mountain Church House

Karen Lynne is a bluegrass singer/songwriter from Australia. She is awesome. She recently recorded a gospel bluegrass album called "Shine Your Light" (see Matthew 5:16), which I don't believe has been released yet, but she was kind enough to send me a preview copy. I was hooked by the very first song, "Little Mountain Church House", written by Carl Jackson and Jim Rushing. Very touching lyrics. What imagery.

Yeah, I know, I already created a video for this song as recorded by Ricky Skaggs. There are no rules here (well, that's not true, there are lots of rules, but not one that applies to this situation), I can cheat and make another video with the same pictures and different music.

Anyway, thank you Karen, this is a wonderful rendition. And the musicians are fantastic, too.

Lisa Daggs - Dancing

I heard this song on Lisa Daggs' weekly radio show "Reality Check" on 103.9 The Fish in Sacramento. It's from her album "Forgiveness Is A Powerful Thing" (and, yes, it is). I used some artistic license and interpreted it as a song about a Down's Syndrome girl, but it could go many different directions. But that was what I envisioned. Very cool song. Thank you, Lisa! Written by James Hudson and C. Evan Leonard. Hope I did it justice.

Hillsong United - Oceans (Where Feet May Fail), feat. Taya Smith

This is from Hillsong United's album "Zion". The overtone is about the scene of Peter being called by Jesus to walk on the water, and he did, but then he temporarily lost faith and started to sink. He called on Jesus to rescue him, and Jesus did. In the bigger picture, sometimes our faith in God wanes a little bit, and then we struggle. We can't do it on our own. But when we put our full trust in Him, He responds. Always.

Written by Matt Crocker, Joel Houston, and Salomon Ligthelm. A beautiful solo by Taya Smith, a new voice to me. Refreshing.

Matt Maher - Lord I Need You

I already made a video of this song with Chris Tomlin's rendition. This is pretty much the same video, but with Matt Maher singing (he is one of the co-authors of the song). He's accompanied by the supremely talented Audrey Assad. Yes, Lord, we definitely need You. We are lost without You.

Karen Lynne - Where Jesus Is

This is such a beautiful song, sung by Karen Lynne. She is so good! Come on people, check out her music. She is outstanding. This is from her album "Shine Your Light", which has not yet been released worldwide, but hopefully soon.

Karen Lynne - A Living Prayer

Karen Lynne is an Australian bluegrass singer. She recently recorded a gospel bluegrass album. I don't think it's been released yet, but Karen sent me a pre-release copy. It's fabulous; every track is a winner, which is rare. Here is a video I made for her version of "A Living Prayer", written by Ron Block of Alison Krauss' band. Wonderful.

Marie Barlow Martin - He Leadeth Me

My father passed away recently. In going through his stuff I stumbled across a wonderful CD by Marie Barlow Martin and Gordy Martin. Lots of wonderful gospel music. The name of the CD is "How Can I Keep From Singing" (no, not the Chris Tomlin song). There are many good songs on the CD. One of my dad's favorite hymns was "He Leadeth Me", so I made this video for the song. I love Christian music, I love the old hymns, I love bluegrass, and so this is pretty much a perfect song. Thank you Marie and Gordy.

Karen Lynne - Walk Slow

My wife is part of an informal walking group composed of fellow Christian women friends. Their group is called "Walking With Friends" (they even have a Facebook page by that name). They hike the trails in the Gold Country around Auburn in the Sierra foothills. She likes to take lots of pictures. So I took some of the pictures and made a slideshow. My wife took most of these pictures, but some of the other women also took some of them. Lots of really nice women. They have a blast. I am not allowed to tag along; women only.

This is a song written by Tom T. Hall and his wife Dixie. It is sung by Karen Lynne, a bluegrass singer from Australia. It's from an album that is not yet released called "Shine Your Light". Karen was fortunate enough to have Tom T. help her put it together.

Does it pay to be righteous?

The Daily Pulse (Friday, May 3, 2013): Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night... Psalm 1

Thought For The Day - 2nd May 2013 By The Christadelphian

“Preaching good news of peace”
(May 2)

Today we read of the perplexity of the Apostle Peter when he has a vision, while sleeping, of a great sheet lowered from heaven which contained a lot of animals that were unclean under the Law of Moses and therefore should not be killed for food. He is told to “kill and eat” and he refuses, but a voice says, “What God has made clean, do not call common” (Acts 10:13,15).

This happened three times and Peter is perplexed as the sheet is removed, but at that moment messengers arrive from the Roman Centurion Cornelius and ask Peter to come with them. He now perceives the meaning of the vision, he is to go and preach the message about Jesus to non-Jews. When he arrives he says to Cornelius, who has also gathered relatives and friends, that he now realises it is God’s will that “in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. As for the word that he sent to Israel preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ …” (verses 35,36).

Only the message of Jesus Christ is the message of peace; it alone offers peace of mind in a world of turmoil. Peace of mind because it creates a relationship with God as Paul told the Philippians, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (4:7).

Peter went on to say to his unexpected audience that Jesus “commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the liv
