World War II Veteran Burke Waldron was honored to represent the men and women who have fallen fighting for this country by throwing a first pitch for the Seattle Mariners. His impressive throw took the world by storm. But it is this hero's message that really got me! God bless this great man.

High school senior Nick Burpee thought his father wouldn't be able to see him walk across stage at graduation. His father, Army Staff Sgt. Jason Burpee, was deployed overseas and wouldn't be home in time for the big day. But much to Nick's surprise, his father showed up at the perfect moment and it's absolutely amazing to witness!

Bretagne was a rescue dog who helped with the recovery efforts after the events of 9/11. This 16-year-old pup was the last surviving 9/11 rescue dog. But sadly her time came and she had to be put down. When you see the incredible hero's salute this beautiful dog got on her last trip to the vet you will be moved to tears. She truly was a hero!

The people of Jesus’ day did not recognize Him for who He was, because He didn't look like they expected Him to look. He certainly did not have a God–look about Him, but was very common in appearance.

[There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. (Isaiah 53:2b NLT)]

And we apparently don’t recognize Him for who He is in today’s world. We apparently don't recognize that Jesus' presence in this world didn't end with the grave—or we wouldn't act like we act.

[When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13–15 NKJV)]

The disciples identified Jesus by somebody else's experience. But to identify Jesus by somebody else's experience did not allow His power and grace to be released in their lives. And Jesus challenged them to have a first‐hand experience of who He was.

If you have been defining Jesus by who He appears to be to other people, Jesus asks you, “But who do you say that I am?” Your faith in Him depends on your understanding of who He is to you—not to somebody else, but to you.

Understanding who Jesus is to you changes everything.

After the terrible flooding in Texas a crew came across a horrific sight. Someone had left their dog tied to the ground and the poor dog was struggling to keep his head above water. But God sent these amazing people just in time to rescue this poor dog. And knowing he is safe now let me breath a little easier!

This grandpa was missing out on so much because he was loosing his hearing. But he didn't realize he needed help until a heartbreaking day when he couldn't hear his grandbaby crying! Pastor Nelson Domingues started talking about an idea called learned helplessness. And at first he was talking about how it keeps elephants from breaking free of a tiny rope. But when he started talking about learned helplessness in my life and my relationship with God I was stunned. I never thought about my life like this! This is powerful!

Evgeny Smirnov and Dascha Smirnova stepped onto the Russia's Got Talent stage and immediately shocked the judges. Evgeny walked out on crutches as he is missing a leg. But when this pair started to dance, you'll be absolutely amazed. What incredible talent and strength!

Jeff Olsen was in the middle of repairing a car when he got a notification saying a baby around the corner needed CPR. He immediately dropped everything and rushed to a dance store where he found a frantic mother and a blue lifeless baby. And hearing how his quick actions helped save this baby's life will move you. Faith in God is not in our confidence that the grocery store shelves will have the food we need and that our bank account will clear the debit charge for those groceries.
Faith in God is not in our confidence that the supplements we take or the prescription medications we take will keep us healthy.
Faith in God is not in our confidence that this next batch of elected officials will fix the problems in our neighborhoods.
Faith in God is not in our confidence that work and family will provide the meaning to our lives.

I hope everything in your life is going your way. But even if man's way of doing things is working quite well for you, please, please don't confuse your success with having faith in God. Because your success at running your life the world's way has absolutely nothing to do with faith in God, and I would be doing you a great disservice if I led you to believe otherwise.

In fact, the better you are at navigating your way through life playing by the rules of the kingdom of this world, the less likely you will be to even notice the kingdom of God.
Maybe you are satisfied with what you've done without God. (As a young Christian I used to even brag about what I did without any help from God.)

But if you can ever taste what you could do with God, then you will look back on your life of independence as missed opportunity.
